This testimonial film focuses on the process that Francisca Guerra and Héctor Medina, protagonists of La Fuerza, experienced throughout their careers and during the making of this work. Both, who define themselves as “people with intervened bodies”, question the limits that the institutionalised world of dance usually imposes on non-hegemonic bodies.
Francisca and Héctor are the first dance students in Chile with disabilities. After scoliosis correction surgeries, Francisca lives with a metal support along her entire spine. Hector is a survivor of bone cancer and lives with the long term impacts of limited physical mobility centered on his shoulder and left arm. Both have found a common and respectful language within their dance.
Creative Contagion is the first inclusive dance residence at the Centre Gabriela Mistral, it is a collective work in a digital format with a team ranging from non-professional scenic artists to award winning film directors. The project has the goal of promoting opportunities for professional artistic creation while including people living with disabilities in its team. This film was directed by Francisco Medina. The dance pieces created during the residence witness the results through dance videos, video testimonies, and conversations with its creators: La Fuerza (Strength), is made with Francisca Guerra and Héctor Medina.
